
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with a December unemployment rate of 19.5%, up from the November revised rate of 18.3%, but down from the December 2014 rate of 20.1%.
Luna was one of two counties in the state with double-digit unemployment in December. Mora County had 10% unemployment.
Other counties with high unemployment in December were McKinley at 9% and Torrance at 8.9%.
In our area, Grant County had 6.8% unemployment in December, Hidalgo County had 6.3% and the Las Cruces area had 6.9%.
The county with the least unemployment remained Los Alamos with 4%.
Unemployment statewide was 6.7% in December – down slightly from November.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 9,827 – with 7,915 employed and 1,912 unemployed.
