Friday saying a Joint Planning Agreement was signed with State Land Commissioner Ray Powell and Luna County Manager Kelly Kuenstler.
The JPA reportedly establishes a cooperative working relationship for marketing state trust lands for economic development purposes.
It also pledges collaboration before any long-term lease, sale or exchange of state trust land occurs.
Presumably, the JPA addresses land desired by Pegasus Global Holdings, the group looking to build an uninhabited replica of an average, mid-size American city in eastern Luna County adjacent to the Dona Ana County line.
The project is described as the creation of an area where researchers can test everything from intelligent traffic systems and
next-generation wireless networks to automated washing machines.
The media release did not specifically mention the Pegasus
project, but was called “a historic agreement” that will help create “good
jobs.”
Kuenstler has said the project could bring over 3,000
construction jobs and up to 350 permanent jobs to the area.
