Nathan Rowland, 31
(Deming) – Members of the Luna  County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team assisted Grant County authorities in the  capture of one of the state Corrections Department’s Most Wanted  Offenders.

Sheriff’s Investigator  Israel Saenz, Junior, said they assisted the Grant County Sheriff’s Department  and Silver City Police Department in apprehending 31-year-old Nathan Rowland  late Tuesday night at a location southwest of Silver City following a  stand-off.

Saenz would not confirm  whether Rowland was being investigated in the shooting early Monday morning of  44-year-old Eric Arzate of Las Cruces.Arzate was shot in the back while he and a Silver City woman were at the  Luna County rest stop between Deming and Silver City.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Ben Segotta  said investigators determined where Rowland was attempting to hide and safely  evacuated the owner and other occupants.

After several hours of a tense  standoff, Segotta said less-than-lethal chemical agents were deployed inside the  residence.  A fire erupted in a back  bedroom, and firefighters were able to control the fire while SWAT members  located Rowland and took him into custody without further  incident.  Rowland was taken to a hospital  for medical treatment, and then booked into the Grant County Detention  Center.

Segotta announced earlier this  month that Rowland had been added to the Marshal’s list of Most Wanted Gang  Offenders.  Segotta said Rowland is a known  member of the “Los Carnales” gang who frequented the Silver City and Bayard  area.

Rowland has an extensive criminal  history, routinely carries a firearm and was considered armed and extremely  dangerous.  Rowland had outstanding charges  of Absconding from Probation, Drug possession, Assault/Battery, Aggravated  Assault against House Hold Member, Larceny of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession  of a Firearm.
