Deputies will be conducting saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints this week.
Plus, New Mexico’s statewide push, called 100 Days and Nights of Summer, officially began Friday.
Lt. Joy Mullins said deputies will be conducting traffic enforcement with funds from the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program – or S.T.E.P. – as well as 100 Days and Nights of Summer traffic safety grants.
Mullins said the S.T.E.P. funds are targeted to be used for patrolling the Interstate 10 safety corridor and the Columbus and Hatch highways, while the other grant funds can be used anywhere in Luna County.
Mullins said the goal is to help make Luna County’s roadways safer for everyone through the summer.
The Luna County Sheriff’s Department reminds motorists to always buckle up, watch their speed and never drive impaired.
