The grant program, called Operation Stonegarden, provides funding to enhance coordination among local, tribal, territorial, state and federal law enforcement agencies to secure the United States’ international borders.
Luna County is receiving the largest piece of New Mexico’s funding pie – over $950,000.
Dona Ana County is receiving nearly $937,000… Hidalgo County’s award is nearly $814,000… Grant County is receiving nearly $246,000… and Otero County will get $200,000.
U.S. Senator Tom Udall said the funding will allow law enforcement agencies to build on the progress they’ve made to improve border security.
In addition to Operation Stonegarden funds… the U. S. Department of Homeland Security is allocating nearly $3.5 million to the State Homeland Security Program to address terrorism and other catastrophic events, and an additional $3.8 million through the Emergency Management Performance Grants program for emergency preparedness.
