Treasurer Gloria Rodriguez said the passage of state legislation this year meant tax bills were delayed being mailed to property owners until after the results of the Deming school district’s two-mill levy question, which was before voters on the November 5th election ballot.
The tax bills were mailed at the end of November, with the first half-payment due December 10th through January 10th.
Normally tax bills are mailed November 1st, with payment due November 10th through December 10th.
Rodriguez said the legislation meant Luna County property owners, along with property owners around the state in districts with school mill levies on the ballot, were granted one-time extensions from the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department.
The second half-payment of property taxes was not impacted by the change, and will be due April 10th through May 10th as usual.
