Treasurer Gloria Rodriguez said the passage of state legislation last year meant tax bills were delayed being mailed to property owners until after the results of the Deming school district’s two-mill levy question in November.
The tax bills were mailed at the end of November, with the first half-payment due by January 10th.
Normally tax bills are mailed November 1st, with payment due by December 10th.
Taxes not paid by January 10th are considered delinquent and will incur interest at the rate of one-percent per month or fraction thereof, as well as a penalty of one-percent of the delinquent taxes or $5, whichever is greater.
The second half-payment of property taxes was not impacted by the change, and will be due by May 10th as usual.
