Luna County and City of Deming officials have been made aware of a pending release of immigrants from the Deming Border Patrol Station into the Deming community.
Border Patrol Authorities say the El Paso sector, which includes Deming and Luna County, documented over 1,700 apprehensions on Thursday.
Chris Brice, Luna County assistant county manager said that the numbers of immigrants to be released in Deming are not exact, but it looks to be in excess of one hundred.
Border Patrol officials have said these persons have been medically cleared and are non-criminal and in most cases they are family units.
In the interest of safety for both local citizens and those being released, the City and County are working jointly to identify temporary shelter, food and water until arrangements can be made to secure transportation of the immigrants to family or friends within the United States.
Local officials are also working with local non-government organizations, like local churches and non-profit organizations to assist in this transition effort.
