The commissioners voted 2-1 Thursday for the schedule change, which County Manager Ira Pearson said could save 13-percent in utilities.
Pearson also cited studies that show a 15-20 percent increase in employee productivity.
Commissioner John Sweetser voted against the change, saying county staff should be available to serve the public during regular working hours. Sweetser said the move effectively reduces public access by 20-percent.
Under the new schedule, county employees will work 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a half-hour for lunch, Monday through Thursday. Offices will be closed Fridays.
Not affected will be the Luna County Sheriff’s Department, the Luna County Detention Center, Central Dispatch, the Healing House, and the county-owned Starmax Entertainment Center.
