Statistics compiled by The Daily Yonder, an online news publication and published by the Center for Rural Strategies shows that in 1970, 7.2% of Luna County residents over age 25 had college degrees. By 2010, 13.5% of adults here had completed college.
The percentage of adults with college degrees in Luna County was less than the national average of 27.9% in 2010, and down from the college-educated rate in New Mexico of 32.1%.
The percentage of Luna County adults with some college was 8.1% in 1970, and 24.1% in 2010.
Luna County had 6,069 adults over age 25 in 1970, and 16,055 in 2010.
Another interesting statistic is that in 2010, 30.5% of the adult population in Luna County had failed to graduate from high school. That’s over double the national rate of 15%, and considerably more that the state rate of 17.3%.
