In late January, county staff finished a 50-week Risk Awareness Program that covered a variety of topics designed to help protect county employees and citizens on courthouse property and to reduce the frequency and severity of claims.
The lessons covered topics including avoiding falls, staying healthy and driving safely.
All county employees were required to participate in the program.
During 2015, Luna County decreased multi-line claims by 86 percent and auto claims by 16 percent.
At the New Mexico Association of Counties winter conference, Luna County was recognized for achieving a positive claim trend and for five years of successfully completing the Risk Awareness Program.
Also, Luna County Emergency Services Director Mark Jasso was recognized as a certified Professional Risk Manager – one of only six in New Mexico. The certification is sponsored by New Mexico State University’s Education Designed to Generate Excellence Program.
