According to the resolution passed unanimously by the commissioners, the declaration allows the county to exercise necessary emergency powers, expend available resources as needed, and request aid and assistance from the state and federal governments.
The resolution directs the county manager, as well as county agencies and departments, to utilize county resources and take all reasonable actions to assist the effort to respond and recover from the outbreak.
It also permits the county manager to allow for flexibility of time and location of work, including offsite and telecommuting for employees during the period of the emergency.
Commission Chairman John Sweetser said the move was prudent and timely to allow the county to be eligible for funds to compensate for expenses brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
