
The meeting will begin with numerous resolutions and agreements, including one creating the Luna County Community and Economic Advisory Committee to advise the commission on matters related to business, industry, community and economic development. The proposed committee would be comprised of seven members appointed by the commissioners, including a representative from each commission district, the city of Deming, the village of Columbus, the chamber and MainStreet.
The commissioners also are looking to combine the current four volunteer fire departments into two main fire departments and two substations, with Sunshine becoming a substation of Florida Mountain and Savoy becoming a substation of Cooke’s Peak.
And the commissioners will consider a resolution declaring this week as New Mexico Hunger Week to raise awareness of the high hunger rate in New Mexico.
The meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the commission chambers, located on the third floor of the Luna County Courthouse.
The meeting will be open to the public.
