
According to Glory Juarez, Interim County Manager, the search was designed to attract a broad and diverse pool of applicants.
The pool included applicants from both the public and private sector with varying levels of experience and education.
The Commissioners reviewed the applicants and narrowed the field to the top 10 candidates, looking for the necessary intelligence, skills, education and experience to perform the job and demonstrate a record of honesty, integrity, innovation and leadership.
On Wednesday, the Commission chose to initially interview 6 applicants from the top 10 list.
The six applicants interviewed were:
William “Eric” Christensen, a veteran of the US Army who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Economics, and an MBA with experience as the County Administrator of Kittson County Minnesota;
Bryon Hollister, a veteran of the US Army and a college educated entrepreneur who also served in the U.S. Marshall’s Service prior to retiring;
Edward “Eddie” Johnson, who holds degrees in Urban Planning, Homeland Security and Strategic Intelligence and a veteran of the US Army who currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Administration for the Maricopa County, AZ Attorny’s Office;
Tyler Massey, who served as the Chief Deputy Assessor for Hidalgo County prior to being elected as the Treasurer and has served on the Board of Directors for both New Mexico Counties and the National Association of Counties;
David McSherry, a life-long Deming resident, school board member and Engineer, business owner, farmer and rancher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science and about to complete a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering;
And Mike Shalati, who earned degrees in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering before obtaining an MBA and served as County Manager of Union County, NC before becoming an independent consultant for public entities.
Juarez said the Commissioners are committed to investing the time and energy dedicated by the importance of the position of stewardship of Luna County Government.
Three applicants were interviews Wednesday, with the rest scheduled to be interviewed Friday, and a decision possibly announced next week.
