
The meeting will begin with a public hearing followed by a vote on Ordinance 86 to adopt a local economic development plan which would allow the county to implement the authority provided by the New Mexico Local Economic Development Act.
The commissioners also will call for two ordinances – one pertaining to Extraterritorial Zone regulations and one pertaining to adding a 1/12th gross receipts tax to help with the financial shortfall in the state’s new Safety Net Care Pool.
The commissioners will hear a presentation on Deming Animal Guardians by Diana Bell, and will discuss the future of solid waste in the county.
Service awards will be given to Pete Loya for 20 years with the Detention Center and to Felipe Chavez for five years with the maintenance department.
The regular meeting is set to begin at 9 a.m. Thursday in the commission chambers, located on the third floor of the Luna County Courthouse. The meeting will be open to the public.
A closed session to discuss the 15 applicants for the county manager’s position will follow the open meeting.
