Sarah Pierpoint with the New Mexico Recycling Coalition said Deming and Luna County
have seen continued growth in their recycling programs this past year.
Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on November 15th to celebrate America Recycles Day.
More than a celebration, organizers say America Recycles Day is the only nationally-recognized day and community-driven national awareness initiative dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.
Keep Luna County Beautiful Administrator Jessica Johnson said the area now has four recycling trailers set up to accept cardboard, mixed paper, #1 and #2 plastic, tin cans and aluminum.
Those trailers are located at Peppers, Wal-Mart, the former swimming pool site at 8th and Spruce
streets and the city’s transfer station off the Old Las Cruces Highway.
Also, Johnson said she is continuing her “You Can Do It” aluminum recycling program year-round. Anyone taking 24 rinsed and crushed aluminum cans to the Luna County Extension Office off Poplar Street south of the Courthouse will receive a bowling pass.
