A media release said the county was awarded $50,000 to provide technical assistance and training to small rural business owners in the Luna County area.
Luna County was one of five New Mexico recipients awarded funds through the USDA’s Rural Business Development Grant program.
USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner said the program is designed to help New Mexico rural communities with job creation and economic development at a time when it’s needed most.
Brunner added that whether the grants result in better planning, infrastructure development or business support services, rural communities will benefit from this USDA program.
Other New Mexico recipients of the grant award were the Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico, Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council, Roswell/Chaves County Economic Development and Santa Fe Community College.
