The group, called “Silent Service – Women in the Armed Forces,” will meet Tuesday, July 9th, at noon in the back room of the La Fonda Restaurant.
Organizer Leanna Rossi said the group is meeting on the second Tuesday of each month so women who served in our armed forces can get together and share their military experiences with one another.
Rossi said women in the military have unique experiences and common bonds that hold them together.
At the group’s first meeting in June, all branches of the service were represented except the Coast Guard.
Rossi said the oldest enlistee was Shirley Ball, a U.S. Marine veteran, who served between 1943 and 1945. She shared her service photo album which included a photo of her enlistment, taken exactly 70 years ago.
Silent Service membership is open to any female veteran from any service, serving at any time. Reservists and those serving in the National Guard also are welcome.
