
In the first, 17-year-old Selena McBride and her passenger father, 41-year-old Richard McBride, were transported to the hospital by ambulance with injuries they sustained when the pickup truck Selena was driving was struck by another pickup truck at the intersection of Sunshine Road and the Columbus Highway.
The driver of the second truck – 73-year-old Jesus Sanchez – said he was heading north on the Columbus Highway Saturday at about 5:30 p.m. when the McBride truck attempted to cross the highway heading west. Sanchez said he swerved but couldn’t avoid the collision.
Selena McBride was cited for careless driving and no driver’s license. Richard McBride was cited for permitting an unlicensed minor to drive.
In the second accident, 43-year-old Steven Gutierrez was driving a motorcycle south on Copper Street at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of the vehicle near Florida Street.
Police officials said it appeared Gutierrez was travelling at a high rate of speed and hit a dip on Copper Street just before Florida, causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle and propelled for approximately 75-feet. Gutierrez was transported by private vehicle to the hospital where he was treated for internal and head injuries. He was cited for reckless driving.
