Nineteen-year-old Gerardo Jaramillo surrendered to law enforcement officers at the Columbus port of entry at just before 10 p.m. Sunday and was immediately taken into custody.
Jaramillo was wanted on five Magistrate warrants – including one involving charges from last month when he allegedly forced two people to drive him from Deming to Palomas, Mexico, where he escaped from Deming Police, Luna County Sheriff’s and Mexican officers. He stabbed one of the two car-jacking victims in the upper right arm during the incident.
Jaramillo’s warrants include charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, robbery with a firearm, aggravated fleeing from law enforcement officers, and conspiracy.
He also was charged with bringing contraband into a place of imprisonment after being caught with marijuana in the waistband of his underwear while being booked into jail Sunday.
