Veterans Day -- also known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day -- commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.
Locally, organizers say the event is designed to celebrate our democracy and honor those who sacrificed their health -- and even life -- in defense of our nation.
The scheduled program will include a POW/MIA Ceremony, and speakers representing the city, county and state, along with local veterans organizations.Retired U.S. Air
Force Lt. Colonel Rick Holdridge will be the keynote speaker.
Lunch will be served at the American Legion Bataan Post #4 at 619 West Spruce Street, immediately following the ceremony.The lunch is free of charge to all.
