Ahmad Alsheikh - Facebook photo DEMING - An incoming senior at Deming High School, has been selected as a senator for American Legion Boys Nation in the Washington, D.C. area, July 19-26.
Ahmad Alsheikh is a member of Boys Nation an annual American Legion program that includes civic training, leadership development and a focus on Americanism.
Alsheikh will be joined by Elijah Ruiz of Eldorado High School in representing New Mexico at Boys Nation.
Deming Superintendent Arsenio Romero said that Ahmad is an amazing person that has shown time and time again his determination and grit in all he does.
Romero said that Ahmad has accompanied him to Santa Fe during the last legislative session where he met the Governor and testified in committee meetings. Romero said that Ahmad is a wonderful example of an outstanding citizen of Luna County, and the newest accolade does not surprise him.
At Deming, Alsheikh will serve as Student Council President and New Mexico Association of Student Councils 2nd Vice President this coming school year.
His other activities include National Honor Society, School Newspaper, and Drama. His awards include Perfect GPA, Perfect Attendance and Student of the Year.
Ashad plans to attend Harvard University after graduation and pursue a career as a doctor.
