
Deming Police Chief Brandon Gigante said Daniel Arteche, age 53 of Deming was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Assault with intent to commit a violent felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Gigante said his officers received a call from Tinley Tee Tire Factory reporting that Arteche had called requesting vehicle assistance at the local Kmart store. When he was told that they didn’t have a person to assist him, Arteche allegedly threatened to shoot the employees.
As officers were taking the report from Tinley Tee Tire Factory, they received a second call. This time it came from staff at Kmart who reported that Arteche had gone into the store and was unhappy about having to wait for his prescription to be filled. He threatened to return and shoot Kmart staff. As he was leaving the store, he was followed by two Kmart employees who reported that once Arteche got to his truck, he removed a shotgun, and pointed it at the Kmart employees. By the time officers responded to Kmart, Arteche had left.
The third call came from the U Store it store on the Columbus Highway. The caller advised there was an affray in process at the location. Once officers arrived, they found Arteche who had gone to the store where his son was. His son was able to take the shotgun away from Arteche and turn it over to Police.
Arteche was arrested by Deming Police officers without further incident. Bond has been set at
