
Political newcomer Linda Smrkovsky garnered nearly 57% of the vote to Spivey’s 43% - or 253 votes to 191 – to advance to the November general election and face Democrat Debra French, who was unopposed in the primary.
And John Mooradian and Robert Santana emerged from crowed races for Luna County Sheriff.
Mooradian will be on the November ballot as the Democrat candidate for sheriff, besting a crowded field of six by receiving over 38% of the vote, to his nearest opponent Mark Jasso’s nearly 31%. Coming in third in the race was Kelly Gannaway with nearly 13%, followed by Mike Eby with nearly 9%, Paul Borde with nearly 6% and Fred De La O with nearly 4%.
And Santana will be on the November ballot as the Republican candidate for sheriff. Santana received 41% of the votes cast, to Michael Waldrop’s nearly 36% and Harold May’s 23%.
All results are unofficial until canvassed by the Luna County Commission during a special meeting Friday at 4 p.m.
