Deming Police Corporal Robert Ornelas said the tournament could extend to the afternoon depending on the number of entries.
Ornelas stressed that you don’t have to be good at bowling to participate because the tournament is designed to be fun and raise money for children in the community.
Registration forms can be obtained at Starmax and must be turned in by this Friday. There will be five players per team at a cost of $12 per player. Fees are due with the registration forms.
The tournament begins with warm-ups at 9 a.m. Saturday. Teams can consist of all women, all men, or co-ed, and youth are welcome to participate. For more information, contact Starmax at 546-7469.
Last year’s “Shop with a Cop” program raised over $18,000 through donations and events like the bowling tournament to help provide Christmas gifts for children in Luna County.
Organization president Richard Cowles said they were able to provide 350 deserving Deming Public School students with a $35 Kmart gift card, and still provided 30 families with a $100 food voucher to Peppers Supermarket along with a Kmart gift card.
The $35 gift card was an increase of $10 from 2011.
