The program, called “Almost Home,” is used to temporarily place appropriate dogs and cats when the animal shelter reaches capacity.
Animal Shelter officials say the program not only allows more time for animals to be adopted, but also enhances their socialization and quality of life.
In the first quarter of this year, the Deming Animal Shelter achieved a 72% adoption rate, which speaks to the commitment of the board, employees and volunteers who staff and assist the facility.
Officials say the key to any animal control program is the spay-and-neuter requirement for all adopted animals.
Additionally, the Deming Animal Shelter’s Mary Jessica Fund is available to assist lower income full-time Luna County residents with the cost of spaying or neutering their dogs and cats.

Also, remember that donations of laundry detergent and bleach, pet food and new or used blankets and towels are always welcomed at the shelter.
