
(Deming) – The Luna County 4-H Rodeo Team will be competing in the State 4-H Rodeo Finals this weekend in Grants.
This year’s team members include Issac DeVora… Mackenzie Head… Raul Perea… Tee Pickett… and Cierra Wood.
DeVora, a senior at Deming High School, will compete in Senior Bull Riding.
Head, a junior at Deming High, will compete in Senior Poles, Barrels and Breakaway Calf Roping.
Perea, a senior at Deming High, will compete in Senior Breakaway Calf Roping, Team-Roping Heading and Team-Roping Heeling.
Pickett, a junior at Deming High, will compete in Senior Calf Roping, Ribbon Roping, Team-Roping Heading and Team-Roping Heeling.
And Wood, a seventh-grader at Red Mountain Middle School, will compete in Novice Flags, Poles, Barrel Racing and Goat Tying.
The team has already had a successful year:
DeVora was the 2014 Grant County 4-H Rodeo Senior Bull Riding Champion.
Perea was the 2014 Sierra County 4-H Rodeo Senior Champion Team-Roping Header, and the 2014 Otero County 4-H Rodeo Senior Champion Team-Roping Heeler.
And Pickett was the 2014 Sierra County 4-H Rodeo Senior Team-Roping Heeler Champion, the 2014 Grant County 4-H Rodeo Senior Team-Roping Heeler Champion, the Grant County Rodeo 2 Senior All-Around, and the 2014 Otero County 4-H Rodeo Senior Ribbon Roping Champion.
Also participating in Luna County 4-H Rodeo this year were Kaitlyn Reed, Taylor Scepka and Starlyn Treadwell.
Each rodeo contestant can compete in all 4-H rodeos for the season but can only count ten pre-selected rodeos to count toward their point standing for the State Finals. Their year-end points and the points they earn at the State Finals determines the final year placing and awards.
The awards banquet will be held Sunday, September 7th, at 9 a.m. at the Cow Palace in Grants.
