
DEMING - Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales called into Deming Radio this morning (Thursday) and spoke with John Krehbiel about how New Mexico continues to deal with the Coronavirus. Details of the conversation are below:
Latest COVID-19 imperative info:
As of noon Wednesday (3/18/20) confirmed 28 cases in NM. Changing daily. Counties affected:
- Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Socorro and Taos
- CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH **SOCIAL DISTANCING** too many New Mexicans are still coming into contact with one another.
- The Governor issued a new power of emergency health order enforced Thursday March 19. Effective immediately:
- All restaurants bars, breweries and eateries will be limited to home deliveries or takeout only. 10-person work environment encouraged.
- All mass gatherings are prohibited.
- Movie theatres, flea markets, indoor/outdoor shopping malls, restaurants, recreational facilities, gyms and spas, must close.
- State is working with Tribal governments/Sovereign nations are cooperating and nearly 100% closed or in the process of closing gaming operations. (casinos and horse racing facilities.)
- Hotels/motels/lodging facilities will run at 50% capacity. (We need rooms for healthcare workers and first responders to have a place to isolate from their families in order to continue to work safely.)
- **WE KNOW THIS IS TOUGH**
- This is painful to all businesses.
- Every time an order is made it’s painful.
- Eligibility includes:
- Those laid off as a result of COVID-19. For example those working at restaurants, event facilities bus drivers, and schools.
- Workers who are self-quarantined or directed to be quarantined or who have immediate family who is quarantined.
- Workers who have their hours reduced as a result of COVID-19.
- **TESTING**
- Current testing:
- At Presbyterian Hospital downtown in Alb, Presbyterian Hospital in Santa Fe, Christus St. Vincent in Santa Fe, Gallup Medical Center, San Juan Regional Medical Center.
- Setting up potential five mobile, drive-thru test sites around the state in.
- Roswell, Las Vegas, Las Cruces, Westside Shelter in Alb and potentially Taos.
- Only get tested if you are currently exhibiting symptoms or have come into contact with someone who has the virus or has these symptoms.
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of Breath
- **OTHER IMPORTANT INFO**
- Should I wear a mask? CDC does not recommend people wear a mask to protect themselves. Please save them for medical workers. Only wear a mask if you have been exposed to COVID-19 or you have symptoms. It’s to protect others…not you.
- Even if you don’t have symptoms you can still transmit the virus. That’s why social distancing is critical.
- There is no treatment right now. Most people recover on their own.
- However in early stages, it is best to seek medical care as soon as you exhibit symptoms which are fever, dry cough and shortness of breath.
