Lt. Luis Lobato said the efforts are part of Selective Traffic Enforcement (STEP), 100 Days and Nights of Summer, and Buckle Up initiatives to enforce traffic laws.
Local participation in the initiatives helps fund officer overtime for checkpoints and an increased law enforcement presence on the streets.
Lobato said the traffic enforcement includes – but is not limited to – speeding, seatbelt and child restraint use, and texting while driving.
Law enforcement officers remind drivers to watch their speed, properly buckle themselves and their children, never text while driving or otherwise drive distracted, and never drive impaired.
