The project is located on McCan Rd between Solana Rd and J Street to the east. Cost for the construction of the project is approximately $365,000. Funded by the State of New Mexico Water Trust Board and matched by the City of Deming. Lone Mountain Contracting out of Bosque Farms, NM is overseeing the project.
Public Works Director Jim Massengill said, “This is a well that provides more flexibility for the city by adding another well to the city’s production system,” “The Water Trust Board can fund five types of projects.” This project type falls under storage, conveyance and delivery of water.
The city’s application was certified for compliance, which was reviewed and ranked by a seven agency technical team titled the Project Management Team, using the Water Trust Boards approved criteria.
The PMT is comprised of staff from the Department of Game and Fish, Department of Agriculture, New Mexico Environment Department, New Mexico Finance Authority, Department of Finance and Administration, Office of the State Engineer and the NM Energy Minerals and Natural Resources Department.
Massengill said, “It can be a complicated process, but the benefits to the Deming water system is a positive step in the right direction."
