Sponsor Janean Garney, who also is Deming High School’s principal, said the students set up shop in front of different businesses each month with the mobile off-site animal trailer.
Garney said this year they are focusing more on the mobile off-site adoptions and fundraising, and have set up in front of Tractor Supply and the Turquoise Poodle.
Saturday, the members were set up at the Community Yard Sale at Courthouse Park.
The students meet monthly to discuss ways to raise funds for the needs of the shelter animals.
The program reportedly teaches students the importance of volunteering within the community as well as being kind to animals and the responsibilities of pet ownership.
Students learn how the shelter operates and why spaying and neutering pets is so important, and then the students help educate the public on the shelter and pet care.
Deming Humane Society President Sande Foster said Garney and her students truly make a difference in the animals’ lives.
