Luna County Sheriff’s Captain Jose Martinez said the accident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. when a 2009 Honda hatchback being driven north on Hermanas Grade by 78-year-old James Morrow failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the intersection, and collided with a 2012 Toyota SUV being driven east on Dona Ana Road by 67-year-old Richard Hovila.
Both men were transported to the hospital with injuries sustained in the crash.
Martinez said Morrow had a dog in his vehicle, which was taken for safe-keeping by animal control officers until the dog could be claimed by an owner.
