And David Sanchez will be returning as a Deming city councilman, joined by newcomer Victor Cruz.
Benny Jasso garnered 1,058 votes – or 66% of the votes cast, compared to 460 votes or nearly 29% for Barbara Reedy. The other three candidates trailed significantly. Larry Caldwell had 57 votes, or 4%... Frank Carter II had 20 votes or just over 1%... and Shannon Relyea had 7 votes, or less than 1%.
Council district one incumbent David Sanchez received nearly half of the votes cast in the district. Sanchez ended with 179 votes – or nearly 49%, compared to 30% or 111 votes for Edward Khanbabian, and 21% or 79 votes for Arsen Khanbabian.
And Victor Cruz easily led the field of three to win the district four seat on the city council. Cruz took over 60% or 368 votes cast, to nearly 28% or 170 votes for Christopher Mosier and nearly 12% or 73 votes for Michal Rudloff.
Voter turnout totaled 17%, and all votes are unofficial until canvassed.
