Luna County Sheriff’s Captain Jose Martinez said it appeared 19-year-old Cooper Jackson rolled his 2004 Ford pickup two times in the 5700 block of South Eighth Street, crashing through a fence, before the pickup eventually landed upright.
The accident was called in to Central Dispatch by an off-duty Deming Police Department officer at about 3:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Martinez said Jackson was not ejected from the vehicle during the rollover, and was speaking clearly and complaining of neck and back pain when emergency responders arrived.
He also appeared to have head injuries.
Martinez said Jackson was not intoxicated and there was no indication of what caused the accident.
A landing zone was set up and Jackson was airlifted to a trauma center in El Paso immediately from the crash site.
