Deming Police Captain Glenn Chadborn said they were called to a structure fire at just after 1:30 a.m. Friday and found the home at 2012 South Slate fully engulfed in flames.
The initial call indicated that there may have been a man inside the home at the time of the fire, so responders were trying to get the fire under control to gain access in a rescue attempt.
Chadborn said the man believed to have been inside the home arrived at the scene some time later.
The man, 35-year-old Jonathan Sigman, reportedly was belligerent and combative, and was eventually arrested for disorderly conduct and drunkenness.
Chadborn said the home belonged to Sigman’s father.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately released.
