Road Scholars will play for the Duck Race Dances, both Friday and Saturday,
August 24th and 25th, from 9 pm till 2 am, at the Adobe Deli Dancehall, east of town on Lewis Flats Road. The dances are open to the public, and you must be over 21.
Road Scholars is Amelia "Mel" Armendariz and Frank "Fingers" Quarrell.
Armendariz has over 25 years experience as a drummer, and Quarrell
begin his musicial career over 27 years ago with local bands as a premier
guitarist. "Fingers" became his moniker label after showing lightning
fret-work and diverse stylings from Mexican corridas and cumbias, to heavy
metal speed riffs, to the resurgence of country/western and the evolution of cross-over power chords. Through the years,
the band has won various competitions, including the 13th Annual Country Music Showdown, and has played with Country Superstar Johnny Rodriguez at various venues.
Sponsors are admitted free to these dances with their sponsor shirt, and a ride service will be available through Corre Cantinas. Organizers says there will be plenty of room with a total of over 10,000 square feet, which includes the dancehall and bar and patio area.
