Police Lieutenant Enrique Granillo, an 18-year veteran of the department, fatally shot 36-year-old Florencio Lucero, Jr., during a domestic dispute on December 2nd in which Lucero had shot his girlfriend, 31-year-old Andrea Perez.
Lucero was brandishing a firearm, pointing the weapon at officers and refusing verbal commands to drop the weapon.
It was at that point that Granillo fired a single shot at Lucero.
Both Lucero and Perez died as a result of their gunshot wounds.
New Mexico State Police investigated the incident, and then turned the case over to the Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office for an independent review.
The ruling from the District Attorney’s Office was that the action taken was justified and deemed lawful.
