According to a media release, Deming MainStreet, in partnership with the city of Deming, has been awarded funding for a public artwork project at the intersection of Gold and Spruce streets.
The artwork, to be located in the middle of the intersection, will feature a Zia sun design with an Ibex in the center, referencing the area's Mimbres culture.
Through the design, Deming MainStreet officials reportedly hope to bolster their successful Mimbres branding theme, create a gateway to the MainStreet district, provide a new marketing tool for downtown promotion, and draw more visitors and residents to the area.
Other communities receiving funding for projects are Corrales, Las Vegas, Silver City, Albuquerque’s South Valley, and Tucumcari.
Projects were selected through a competitive application process that included demonstrated direct economic impact and/or job creation in the district.
