
(Deming) – There will be a no-cost workshop this Friday in Deming for anyone interested in starting a food business.
The workshop, hosted by New Mexico State University, will cater to farmers’ market vendors, small-scale food processors and start-up companies.
Participants will get a better understanding of commercial food processing regulations, the marketing of food products, the challenges of a good business and how to use a business plan.
Topics include “Getting Gramma’s Recipe to Market” and “Navigating the Permitting Process.”
The event will run from 8:30 to 4 Friday and is free of charge but limited to 25 persons. Lunch will be provided.

The program is presented with support from the United States Department of Agriculture and the New Mexico Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop 2010 grant focused on food safety education for specialty crop home-based food processors.
