Sheriff’s investigator Bobby Brookhouser said 23-year-old Brenda Romero of Santa Clara was arrested this week after being spotted by Luna County Sheriff’s officers conducting surveillance in Silver City.
Brookhouser said Romero was seen getting into a vehicle which was then stopped a short while later and Romero was taken into custody without incident.
Romero, who is believed to have been the driver during what was described as “a set-up robbery gone bad,” has been charged with robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to commit a violent felony. She has been sought in connection with the case for nearly seven months.
Previously charged in the rest stop shooting of Eric Arzate of Las Cruces was Nathan Rowland of Silver City, who was one of the state Corrections Department’s Most Wanted Offenders… Salvador Sepulveda of Bayard… Martha Ramos Cano of Hurley… and Ashley Ortega of Bayard.
Arzate was shot in the back after resisting the robbery attempt.
