County Manager Kelly Kuenstler said the team has been in Luna County since November 5th and is scheduled to remain through December 7th, working out of the Luna County Emergency Services office visiting with eligible applicants.
Luna County was included in an October Presidential Disaster Declaration which made funding available to help repair infrastructure damaged by the storms. The grants are obligated to the state in order to reimburse eligible applicants for expenses incurred with taking emergency measures to protect lives and property, clear downed trees, power poles and other debris, and repair public infrastructure including roads, bridges and public utilities.
Under a cost-sharing formula, FEMA reimburses the state for 75% of the total costs, while the state and/or the applicant must pay the remaining 25%.
