
About 40 contestants participated in the annual free-throw contest, and six winners will advance to the next level.
The winner of the eight-to-nine year old girls’ competition was Santana Valentine.
The winner of the eight-to-nine year old boys’ competition was Riley Apodaca.
The winner in the 10-to-11 year old girls’ competition was Harmanie Dominguez.
The winner of the 10-to-11 year old boys’ competition was Isaac Baeza.
And the winner of the 12-to-13 year old girls’ competition was Adryana Jaquez.
The winner of the 12-to-13 year old boys’ competition was Jonathan Caballero.
All six will advance to the district contest to be held in Deming on January 17th.
Winners there will advance to the state “Hoop Shoot” in February, to the regionals in Texas in March and, if not eliminated, to the national finals in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Elks have been holding “Hoop Shoot” contests throughout the country since 1974.
