In a news release, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Border Patrol agents attempted to stop two vehicles on Thursday, June 10th.
The agents suspected the vehicles carried undocumented migrants.
When agents attempted to stop the two vehicles about 21 miles west of Columbus, officials said the vehicles "failed to yield to the lights and sirens," and drove about 34 miles on state roads south of Interstate 10.
Eventually four undocumented migrants jumped from one of the vehicles as it traveled on State Road 146 – or the Hachita Highway.
One of the jumpers, a woman from Ecuador, suffered head injuries and was taken to University Medical Center in El Paso.
She died Sunday, June 13th, from the injuries.
Agents eventually took the vehicles' drivers and passengers into custody.
