
County Clerk Andrea Rodriguez said registered voters may cast a paper absentee ballot or vote on an electronic voting system in the clerk’s office, located on the first floor of the Luna County Courthouse or at the Mimbres Valley Learning and Special Events Center, 2300 E. Pine St., Saturday until 5 p.m.
Locally contested races include State Representative, with Republican Vicki Chavez and Democrat Candie Sweetser vying to succeed Dona Irwin, who is retiring.
Republican John Sweetser and Democrat Crystal Pena are running for the County Commission District 3 seat currently held by Javier Diaz, who is ineligible to run again because of term limits.
And Republican Tammy Zumwalt and Democrat Gloria Rodriguez are vying to succeed Luna County Treasurer Dora Madrid, who also is ineligible to run again because of term limits.
Also, Jarod Hofacket is running unopposed for Sixth Judicial District Court Judge to succeed Daniel Viramontes, who retired in August.
And incumbent Luna County Clerk Andrea Rodriguez and incumbent District 35 State Senator John Arthur Smith are both running unopposed for additional four-year terms in their respective positions.
