
The steer, raised by Dylan Smyer, was named the Champion Shorthorn in the tough statewide
competition held this week in Albuquerque.
Smyer, a 6th grader at Deming Intermediate School, also raised the 4th place Class Three Simmental steer and a fifth place lamb.
Other Luna County youth raising steers that placed in the top eight of their respective classes at the state fair were: Tanner Caldwell…Annie Kuenstler… and Skylar Miller.
And other Luna County youth raising lambs that placed in the top eight of their respective classes were Annie Kuentsler… Sealy Kuenstler… and Shelbie Peterson.
No local youth showed pigs at the state fair… and none of the goats raised locally placed in the top spots in Albuquerque.
The State Fair runs through September 23rd. The Southern New Mexico State Fair will be held October 2nd-7thin Las Cruces… and the Southwestern New Mexico State Fair will be October 10th-14th in Deming.
