Officials say unused prescription drugs often become part of the illegal substance abuse problem in a community.
Deming Police Chief Brandon Gigante said residents are encouraged to drop off their unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs in a collection box to be set up in the lobby of the police department, 700 East Pine, this Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
He said no questions would be asked and no identifying information requested.
Gigante added that medication must be in some type of container or baggie. The DEA does not accept any liquid medications, needles or syringes.
