The Deming School Board hired Dr. Dan Lere to replace Harvielee Moore as superintendent of Deming Public Schools. Moore is retiring at the end of her contract in June, and Lere begins work July 1st.
School board officials described Lere as an experienced, well-qualified educator. He reportedly started in education as a science teacher.
He presently works as an adjunct faculty member at Colorado State University–Pueblo.
Lere has experience as a school superintendent: he served as superintendent of Pueblo County Schools from 2004-2010.
And Lere has experience outside of education: he worked as the executive director of the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center from 2012-2013, regional director of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011-2012, and the executive director of personnel services in Monument, Colorado, from 2001-2004.
He holds a doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado.
Lere will make $126,000 a year as Deming school superintendent, plus have a vehicle and cellular phone provided. His moving expenses from Colorado will be paid by the Deming district and he successfully negotiated an additional five days of paid vacation.
