The Deming Headlight is reporting that crowds of people gathered in downtown Deming Tuesday to say goodbye to Orosco, who has served as chief since March of 2016.
Detective Lee Jordan Cook read a message through the police car intercom system that said Orosco started his career in 1998 in the patrol division, and had an accomplished career as patrol sergeant, sergeant detective, patrol captain, assistant chief, and chief of police.
He also worked for the Luna County Sheriff's Office and the Dona Ana Sheriff's Department.
Orosco directed his officers to focus on community and school outreach, which included several community get-togethers as well as “Cram the Cruiser” school supply and food drives.
Orosco thanked the people gathered and said, “It’s been a wonderful time.”
The department is currently under the leadership of Assistant Chief Alex Valdespino.
