Last month, the local DMV office established new hours. The Deming office is now open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m., and 1:30-3 p.m.
Also, customers are now greeted at an information desk, from which they are referred to the employee who specializes in their needed transaction.
And DMV officials are encouraging people to register online at www.mvd.newmexico.gov where they can renew a vehicle registration, driver’s license or ID, pay a citation, take care of titles and liens, or make an appointment for further service.
The website also answers questions such as how to change your address, get a specialty license, protect your identity, or register as an organ donor.
The online site is in both English and Spanish.
City Administrator Rick McInturff credits State Senator John Arthur Smith for getting the ball rolling on changes at the local office.
McInturff said that with Senator Smith’s assistance, the state DMV director came to Deming to discuss strategies to improve service to the community.
Day-to-day operations of the Deming DMV are run by the state, and the state shares some of its fees with the city for providing personnel and office space.
