Deming Police Chief Brandon Gigante said Deming presently has four designated neighborhood watch groups, but said several people expressed interest in starting a group during the National Night Out event Tuesday.
The event, which brought approximately 75 people together to talk about crime prevention awareness, was organized by David Velez, a member of Boy Scout Troop 134.
National Night Out is considered the nation’s premiere crime prevention event that brings law enforcement officials and civilian leaders together to keep crime watch volunteers informed, interested, involved and motivated.
Gigante said anyone interested in getting a watch group started is encouraged to call the department at 546-3011 and ask for Captain Bobby Orosco or Lieutenant Kathleen Schindler.
